Fabulous Hollywood Boulevard

On Hollywood Boulevard, you can lunch at Charlie Chaplin’s favorite restaurant (Musso & Frank Grill), also the oldest restaurant in Hollywood. Or marvel at the exotic design of Egyptian Theatre, the first movie palace in this movie magic town. Both have recently been faithfully restored.

So steeped in the history of the silver screen is Hollywood Boulevard that in 1985 it was officially listed with the National Register of Historic Places, one of very few city streets to receive this honor.

Just some of the sights on this fascinating street:

• Kodak Theatre – since 2000 the home of the star-studded Academy Awards and part of the $600 million Hollywood & Highland complex of boutiques and restaurants.


• Hollywood Walk of Fame – celebrating the stars. Take a walk to the west end of the Walk to take in the La Brea Gateway, graced by four life-size statues of goddesses of the stage and screen.

• Grauman's Chinese Theatre – recently restored to its original name and splendor.

• Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel – known for its Spanish fountain in the lobby, its celebrity bars and poolside cabanas, the Roosevelt also has a wonderful collection of Hollywood memorabilia for visitors to view.

Though we don’t have time to visit them during this tour, you may choose to return later to enjoy these other popular attractions on the Boulevard:

• The new Hollywood History Museum, housed in the beautiful Art Deco Max Factor building.


• Disney’s El Capitan Theatre, where in the last century Clark Gable and Richard Nixon appeared in live performances (but not together) and today where Disney premiers its animated movies for children.


• Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium, The Guinness World Records Exhibition and The Hollywood Wax Museum are all located in the 6700 block of Hollywood Boulevard.
